Little Fly (маленькая муха),
Thy summer’s play (твою летнюю игру)
My thoughtless hand (моя бездумная рука)
Has brushed away (смахнула прочь; to brush [brʌʃ] – чистить /щеткой/, смахивать; brush – щетка).
Am not I (не есть ли я /сам/)
A fly like thee (муха, подобная тебе)?
Or art not thou (или не есть ли ты)
A man like me (человек, подобный мне)?
For I dance (потому что я пляшу),
And drink, and sing (и пью, и пою),
Till some blind hand (пока чья-нибудь слепая рука; blind [blaɪnd] – слепой; не замечающий /чего-либо/)
Shall brush my wing (не смахнет мое крыло = мои крылья).
If thought is life (если мысль есть жизнь)
And strength and breath (и сила, и дыхание; breath [breθ]),
And the want (а отсутствие; want – недостаток, нехватка; отсутствие)
Of thought is death (мысли есть смерть; death [deθ]);
Then am I (тогда я есть)
A happy fly (счастливая/веселая муха).
If I live (живу ли я: «если я живу»),
Or if I die (или умираю).
Little Fly,
Thy summer’s play
My thoughtless hand
Has brushed away.
Am not I
A fly like thee?
Or art not thou
A man like me?
For I dance,
And drink, and sing,
Till some blind hand
Shall brush my wing.
If thought is life
And strength and breath,
And the want
Of thought is death;
Then am I
A happy fly.
If I live,
Or if I die.
